Revitalizing Our Neighborhoods
It has been said and I believe that "the strength and character of a city can be measured by the vibrancy of its neighborhoods." It has been and will continue to be a major priority of mine to rehabilitate our neighborhoods and enhance the quality of life to the inner city core. As Mayor, I can assure you that I will build on the foundation of past revitalization projects and find a way in these constrained economic times to continue the City’s commitment to complete the vital neighborhood revitalization program. As Mayor I will continue to pursue steps to:
- Develop and rehab the Rolling Hills/Southside site
- Seek crucial tax credits from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to complete vital projects.
- Develop mixed income rental units on the Rolling Hills site.
- Develop the design for the infrastructure improvements.
- Work with the Center for Community Self Help, on housing-related initiatives, break ground for 10 to 20 new homes in Southside.
- Work toward implementing other neighborhood improvement efforts, using federal neighborhood stabilization program funds.
- Improve neighborhoods, in an environmentally conscious manner.
- Launch the Home Energy Improvement Program that will assist households reduce their energy bills by more than 20 percent.

Welcome!
I consider it an honor to have been given the privilege to be mayor of this city. We've made Durham a safer place for our children, a more fruitful place for business, and a wonderful, creative, diverse home for families. I want to continue that work.
