Practicing Fiscal Responsibility

Under my leadership as Mayor, Durham continues to be one of few cities nationally that has maintained a AAA Bond rating from the 3 major bond rating agenciesStandard & Poors, Moody’s and Fitch. In addition, the city has consistently received clean external auditor's reports with no material issues in the accompanying management letter.

I promise as your Mayor to continue to hold accountable those persons for which the city charter says we have direct authority. As a City with a council manager form of government not a strong mayor form of government -- any decisions about the city manager, city attorney or city clerk with respect to disciplinary actions are handled by the full council voting as a majority and not by any one single person. Although the mayor may be considered to be the first among equals, the mayor still has only one vote the same as every other council person.
